This is the first event of the school year! Most PTA committees will be present to answer any questions and welcome new volunteers to sign up for their event. It’s also a good time for our OMS community to catch up after a long summer!

Bingo Night

This event is free of charge to OMS families. Each OMS family is asked to bring a non-perishable food item or personal care item to donate to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry. Prizes are provided to students and refreshments are served.

Owl About Us: A Celebration of Culture & Community is a new PTA sponsored event that celebrates what makes each Olive family unique. We encourage interested families to sign-up and share what is meaningful to them about their culture.

Participating families can choose how they’d like to take part based on their interests and comfort level. Each family will be provided with table space and a tri-fold display board to decorate and showcase their culture. Families are also welcome to make their experience more interactive by offering food samples, leading an activity or demonstration, or participating in a performance on the Commons stage. Families can choose one or several of these options—there’s no one way to participate and no expectation to do them all!

Not interested in having a table spot? We encourage you to attend the event to learn Owl About Us!

Sign up here to reserve your spot.

First Aid for Little People

The Health Information Committee plans and coordinates a “First Aid for Little People” program every spring at Olive. The “First Aid for Little People” program is an American Red Cross First Aid Program designed for students in 1st and 2nd grade and is held in the LMC. There are 5 stations that students go through (fire safety, poison control, choking, basic first aid and water safety). Volunteers are a very important part of this program. The time commitment is minimal, only about one hour. Two volunteers are typically needed at each station and present the information to the students. All of the information is very basic and given to the volunteers ahead of time. This is a very fun program and the students take away such valuable information from it. Please consider volunteering your time!

The Owl Way

Promotes good character and kindness at all grade levels. The Owl Way implements service initiatives to promote good character traits such as being kind, responsible, honest, fair and helping others. We work to carry out service projects with the help of students, parents and staff. The Owl Way fosters a positive learning environment and breeds a culture of kindness.

The Owl Way Coat Drive: Bring in your gently used winter gear (coats, boots, hats, gloves, etc.) to pass on to individuals that need it! We are happy to be partnering with WINGS again this year, as they provide a pathway to independence for adults and children who are escaping from domestic violence and abuse. We will be accepting gently used adult/children’s coats in the OMS Commons.

World of Work

The WOW program provides 5th grade students the opportunity to act as employees for a day for local businesses that interest them. The WOW program is supported by many Arlington Heights businesses and utilizes many parent volunteers from our OMS families. This is another committee in need of a chair and at risk of not happening if someone doesn’t step up to take charge. Please consider and contact olivepta@gmail.com if interested.
