Teacher Conference Dinner – Supplies Needed!

As conferences approach, the PTA sponsors a special dinner to show our teachers how much we appreciate them. This years conference dinner theme is Campout of the Mighty Owl!

Help us create a fun and memorable dinner that will include sliders, mac and cheese, chili and baked potatoes. We need donations of food, drinks, paper products and decorations. We also need help setting up for and cleaning up after this important event!

Fall Camp Fit Sign Up

Camp Fit is back this Fall and we are excited to bring back all the fun field games, running track and yoga in the courtyard. Camp Fit will be offered to 1st-5th graders on TUESDAYS starting September 11-September 25th (rain date October 2) immediately after school until 4:30 pm. Sign up today, Don’t delay- Space is limited.

Also, we need parent volunteers to help make this program a success. Please consider helping us out on Camp Fit days.

Bike Rodeo – Wednesday, September 12th, 3:35pm – 4:45pm

Attention ALL 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. The 2018 Bike Rodeo will be Wednesday, September 12th after school until 4:45 p.m. The rain date will be Wednesday, September 19th. Each year at Olive, we require that all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who would like to ride their bike to school (and have not participated in the past) participate in the Olive-Mary Stitt PTA Bike Rodeo. This rodeo is an introduction to biking rules and an opportunity for the children’s bikes and helmets to be checked for safety. Children may ride their bikes to school on the day of the Bike Rodeo and any day after their successful completion of the Bike Rodeo. Helmets are required for attendance.

Sign up Now for House Hop 2018

Please join us on Saturday, September 29th from 7pm-11pm for the 7th annual House Hop (formerly called progressive dinner.) Come mingle and enjoy drinks and hors-d’oeuvre with other OMS parents, and make new connections, all while having a great time and supporting the PTA! All OMS parents are welcome-come single, as a couple or with a friend.

The deadline for purchasing tickets at $35 each is September 14th. Late registrations will be taken if space is available through September 21st and the fee is $40 per ticket. Space is limited, so please register ASAP.

If you have not attended this event, it is a lot of fun. You will pick up your house assignments at Olive just before the event. The first house is from 7:00-9:00 for food and drinks, then you move on to the second house at 9:00-11:00 to meet different people and continue the fun. We will also be scheduling an “after hours” at a local establishment if you want to keep the party going.

World of Work Was a Success!

OMS fifth graders went to work on Friday, March 2nd with our new Olive World of Work program. We had interns learn about journalism, marketing, acting, designing and running library to name a few.

In all we had twenty two local business host this amazing learning experience for our students. Everything ran smoothly considering we had three buses, three bus routes and seven bus stops. A BIG THANK YOU goes out to all 30 chaperones who helped make this day possible!

“World of Work” comes to Olive-Mary Stitt Friday, March 2, 2018. The purpose of “World of Work” program is to provide the 5th grade students an opportunity for a “real world” work experience.

This program must have enough chaperones to take flight.

This program would allow the 5th grade students to see the value hard work in different business settings. We will partner with local businesses and companies for the children to job shadow a few hours, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM is our approximate window. Examples: Berry-yo, AH Memorial Library, Sweet T’s, AH public works, Runner’s High n’ Tri, A La Mode.

Are you a local business owner? Would you like your business to participate? Does your company participate in student learning programs? Additional space will be provided by Arlington Heights Library.

2nd & 3rd Grade Activity Night – Coming at You on Thursday, February 1!

The PTA’s 2nd & 3rd Grade Activity Night is just a few days away on Thursday, February 1. It will be held in the OMS Commons. The doors will open at 6:45pm, with the show starting promptly at 7pm and ending by 8pm.

This event is free to all OMS second and third grade students. Unfortunately, due to size limitations, siblings in other grades are not permitted. Students should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Our middle-grades will be entertained by the Super U Challenge, a game-show like event that encourages respecting others and making good choices. We’ve been told that slime is also involved! Check out their website for more details on the show: http://superuchallenge.com/school_assembly_show/.

OMS Day at the Movies – Save the Date!

Save the date to join your OMS friends for a private viewing of Paddington 2 on Monday, January 22 (no school that day)! All OMS families are welcome.

The movie will be shown at 10:00am at Paragon Movie Theatre at 53 S. Evergreen. Tickets are $6 each, and snack packs will be available for $4. Tickets will only be sold through the Paragon Box Office, starting January 5. Space is limited and tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Family Roller Skating Night – Save the Date!

The PTA-sponsored Family Roller Skating Night is Thursday, January 18th from 6:30-9:00pm. Come for a fun-filled evening with your family to the Orbit Skate Center in Palatine.

OMS Holiday Story Time – December 22nd

OMS Holiday Story Time:

Kindness Rocks at our annual holiday story time this year! On December 22nd Mrs. FitzPatrick and Ms. Davis will be reading the students a story about kindness. After the story is read, students will brainstorm and determine what word they want to write on their rock and then decorate it. A temporary rock garden at school will be created for all of the rocks to be located and people to see! This is a collaborative effort with the Student Council and the PTA and we are very excited!

Ladies’ Night Out – Nov 30th!

Come join other Olive moms at a wine tasting at Vintages Wine Shop! It will be on Nov. 30th from 6-8pm. It will be a great way to socialize and meet new people at Olive. The cost of the event is $20 and it includes: a wine tasting, appetizers and a raffle. Picture Re-Takes – Thursday, November 2nd, 2017

If you child was absent or needs a retake. please have them bring their picture packet or new order form to school on Thursday, 11/2/17. Retakes will begin promptly in the morning after announcements. Additional forms are available in the office. Please Note: PM Kindergarten retakes need to be done between 9:00-11:00 am.

It’s that time of year to start getting ready for the OMS Halloween Classroom Parties.

The room reps are hard at work planning a great party for the kids. Look for the sign up genius link your room reps will be emailing to make your classroom party a success! You can also find your classroom sign up genius link once it’s available on the Olive PTA website under the “Volunteer” tab.

If you have not volunteered at school yet this year, please stop in the office to fill out a volunteer form. Once again, we will have a Halloween volunteer list that the office will use to print out the badges. If you are not on the office list, you will not be able to enter the building or classroom party.

Are You Interested in Having your Child Learn to Play the Violin or Cello?

Music for Youth is a parent-paid program, partially subsidized by District 25, that provides string instruction at your school. To learn about our program, please attend our parent information session on Tuesday, September 19 at 7:00pm at Westgate Elementary School. Hear a short musical presentation by current students, learn about our program and meet our teachers. Registration materials will be available.

Reflections Art Contest – Submissions Due November 3rd, 2017

What? – Reflections is a PTA sponsored arts program that invites children to participate using their creative talents. There are six different categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Art.

When? – Submissions are due in to Olive by November 3rd.

Who? – All students from Pre-K through 12th grade may enter as many pieces as they would like.
