Join us, on November 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the OMS LMC, for our General PTA meeting! Following the meeting, we hope you will stay for our speaker presentation as we invite back Meribeth Cassidy, pediatric occupational therapist, as she gives a short presentation titled “Why We Misunderstand Behaviors.” Meribeth will talk about how we can be more present with our kids as well as using their “behaviors” as a guide to facilitate communication and problem solving.
She will also introduce the opportunity to participate in a book club during the school year to discuss “Raising Human Beings” by Dr. Ross Greene. Dr Greene’s book introduces a different approach to problem solving through our children’s behavior called Collaborative Proactive Solutions (CPS). CPS is a proactive, collaborative approach that focuses on problem solving between parent and child to address lagging skills, behavior and unsolved problems. It focuses on working with the child to help him or her develop the skills to problem solve, be successful through difficult situations, and develop skills to be more thoughtful, resilient and empathetic. The book club will be facilitated by both Meribeth Cassidy and Carrie Holt, and will begin at a later date.
*Please note - we hope you are able to make this meeting, however if your schedule does not allow, we welcome you to still participate in the book club. Stay tuned for announcements regarding our first OMS PTA Book Club!
