Q: What is STEAM Night?
A: A fun hand- on/interactive night for FAMILIES to come and explore how Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math impact our everyday lives. Older and younger siblings are welcome, but families must remain together.
Q: When is STEAM Night?
A: Steam night is Thursday, January 31st. It starts at 6:30pm and ends at 8:00pm. The 4th graders will have two brief concerts during the evening as well in the commons.
Q: I’d love to attend – do I need to register?
A: No, but it would be appreciated if you could give us a heads-up so we can prepare our supplies accordingly – please fill out the form here. However, even families who decide to join us last minute are welcome.
Q: Do you need volunteers?
A: YES!! While this program is Co-Sponsored by the PTA & School it will still take many helping hands to get everything ready! Please sign up here to help out in 30 minute time slots!
Q: Who will be there?
A: Northern Illinois University will be at our STEAM night with over 15 different hands on stations to visit! Such stations will include a dark room with laser lights, pendulums, pulleys even a PVC pipe organ will be there! In addition to NIU’s tables, we will also have a variety of local companies including Metropolis, Mathnasium, School of Rock, Galileo, the AH Police Department, AH Fire Department, and AH Library. In addition to all those amazing companies our own local OMS parents and the businesses they work for will be represented; for example Meribeth Cassidy with Step Forward Therapy, Adam Thoma with HKM Architects & Planners, Missy Turner with Pediatrust, Liz Schrenk with Something Blue Photography, and Kevin Chaplin with Slalom Consulting. And if that wasn’t enough, our OMS staff members have compiled an outstanding list of other activities for our students to explore (including: boat races, lego communication, catapult station, a tech room full of surprises and much more!) This is one event you DON’T WANT TO MISS!!
Q: Will I get to see it all?
A: NO!! We have designed the evening to be available for EVERYONE to attend therefore, you will NOT be able to hit every station. And that’s okay, we wanted to make sure everyone had the opportunity to flow throughout the space therefore you won’t have a long wait at any one station. Know that you won’t get to every station and that’s OKAY!! Please also take a minute to help your children understand there won’t be time to explore all of the stations and that’s by design. We would hate to have disappointed children at the end of the evening.
Q: Is this a drop off event?
A: NO!! This event is for FAMILIES to interact together and have fun traveling throughout the school as a group. You are to stay with your child at all times. We want this to be a fun interactive night for parents and kids!
Q: I still have questions, who can I talk to?
A: If you have any additional questions please reach out to Sue Kowols at firstname.lastname@example.org
