“Everybody Counts” is a disability awareness program for all grades at Olive. Each grade level curriculum teaches about a different disability: Kindergarten – overview of vision, hearing, and motor impairments, 1st grade – vision impairment, 2nd grade – hearing impairment, 3rd grade – cognitive impairment, 4th grade – motor impairment, 5th grade – learning disabilities. The goal is understanding; to help everyone know the person behind the disability and to create a climate in which we all feel at ease with differences in each other.
This year, classroom presentations will be scheduled February 1st-5th . We need 2-3 volunteers per class to present these simple pre-written programs to the students. All materials will be provided and an “Open Bin” night is scheduled on Tuesday, January 26th from 6:30-7:30 pm for volunteers to peruse the materials. The classroom presentations should take about 45 minutes. You can sign up for any teacher or time slot that is convenient for you. Please consider signing up for one or more time slots. It’s a great way to help in your child’s classroom while demonstrating the “Character Counts” pillars of respect and caring. It takes many volunteers to make this program a success. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Amy Slowinske or Christine Gilbert.
